What is Dysport?

The Dysport treatment is non-invasive, and you’ll see noticeable changes after a few shots. I’m here to help you understand how it works and the potential benefits you are likely to get. My personalized approach allows us to tailor the treatment to suit your unique needs.

This is a wrinkle correction treatment that contains Botulinum toxin type A. The treatment is in the form of an injection, and the active ingredient in the shot is a protein component sourced from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Botulinum toxin helps to soften wrinkles by reducing muscle activity in the treatment area.

Dysport Benefits

• The fill is invisible
• The injections spread evenly for a smooth consistency
• Versatile treatments (forehead, crow’s feet, near the nose, corners of the mouth, sagging neck skin)
• A natural appearance
• Fast  and longer-lasting results
• Prevents wrinkles
• No downtime

How does Dysport work?

During the treatment, Dysport will be injected in the treatment area to relax the nerves in the muscles. For facial wrinkles, we will inject it into five points around the eyebrows and forehead. A topical anesthetic can be used for optimal comfort.

As muscle activity in the treatment area reduces, the prominence of your frown lines will diminish, too. The decreased muscle movement is meant to prevent the deepening of wrinkles, which occur due to constant muscle activity.

Dysport Costs

The cost of the injections ranges from $300 to $800 per session, and I will help you understand the precise costs during the initial consultations. It’s important to note that the treatment isn’t covered by medical insurance when used for treating wrinkles. In this case, it’s considered a cosmetic procedure.  Insurance might cover the cost of the injections if they are given to treat medical conditions, such as muscle spasms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dysport treatment is used to treat wrinkles in most patients. It’s also ideal for treating increased muscle stiffness in patients who are two years old or older. The treatment is usually administered for both upper and lower limb spasticity. Adults who have cervical dystonia (CD) can also benefit from the treatment. CD is a chronic movement disorder that causes neck muscles to tighten, resulting in pain.

When seeking treatment for wrinkles, most patients can choose between Dysport and Botox, which are both FDA-approved. Both are non-invasive injections, and they work by relaxing the underlying muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They also contain the same active ingredient, but the amounts of the trace protein can vary.

In most cases, these two treatments can be used to benefit the same facial concerns. The greatest discrepancy is in what they should be used to treat.  Dysport, which diffuses easily, usually requires fewer injections than Botox to achieve the desired results. But the consistency found in Botox makes it better suited for targeting precise locations like the “11” lines between your eyebrows. It’s also ideal for treating lines around the mouth and under your eyes. Whereas Dysport is better for crow’s feet and forehead lines. Both can additionally be used on the:

• Sides of the nose where bunny lines form
• Nasal flares
• Corners of the mouth
• Jawline
• Eyebrows

Each person responds differently to treatment. However, most people will see improvement in the treated area within 3 days. Most notice a difference before leaving the office.

This depends on your metabolism. For some, results last just a few months, while others find their results maintain for 6 months or more.

Yes. In fact, they commonly combine these two non-surgical facial treatments.  Dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse complement the effects of Dysport by filling in hollowed areas of the face such as the gaunt cheeks and concave temples and correcting the appearance of deep wrinkles caused by soft tissue deflation like the laugh lines and marionette lines.

Dysport has been tested and FDA approved for use worldwide for over 10 years. The most common side effects are slight bruising due to the injection. Nonetheless, there are ways to reduce your risk of bruising. Even if you do bruise, the bruising will last a couple of days, at most. In rare cases, Dysport can cause relaxation in surrounding facial muscles. If this happens, please discuss the results with your esthetician so they can properly adjust your charts.

Skipping the gym on the day of the treatment will help- not because it’s dangerous or bad for the Dysport treatment, but simply because exercise increases a patient’s risk of bruising. Also, don’t take any blood thinners like aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, and omega 3s for a week before coming in if you can- since these all thin your blood, they make the chances of bruising more likely. And although there aren’t any great studies to back up the efficacy of downing arnica tabs for a few days before and after your Dysport treatment, a lot of people swear by them, so unless you’re allergic, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to try.
