How do Dermal Fillers work?

A dermal filler cosmetic treatment injects a special gel under the surface of the skin to fill out areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging. Fillers can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds while plumping up the skin to help it look younger. All the dermal fillers that the Face Place offers are FDA approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both treatments involve injections, but botulinum toxin relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles while dermal fillers simply plump out and smooth wrinkles. Sometimes, these treatments are more effective when combined.

Pain tolerance varies. Most clients find that the treatment is more comfortable than expected. Clients are numbed using a numbing topical cream that works before the injection, so you will begin to feel numb from that too.

The best way for patients to ensure they receive a safe dermal filler treatment is to make sure that the clinic is registered and that the clinician is adequately qualified to administer the treatment. Safety credentials are often registered to show they meet set standards in training, skill, and insurance.

Side effects of dermal fillers are usually mild and can range from redness, bruising, tenderness, or swelling. Although exceedingly rare, infection is always a possibility. For maximum safety, fillers should only be injected by a highly qualified medical practitioner who has extensive training and experience.  See Liz’s certifications and credentials.

Dermal Fillers Costs

Dermal fillers are priced at a cost per syringe. The price varies depending on the type of filler and its contents. Most patients require more than one syringe to achieve the desired results. This price can range from $750 to $1,000 per syringe. When you have your initial consultation, the total cost of your procedure will be discussed after deciding what option is best for your needs.

Before Your Treatment

• Your appearance goals
• Skincare concerns and questions
• Medical history
• Current medications and substances you’re taking
• Previous cosmetic treatments you’ve undergone
• Available options personalized to your wanted treatment specifications
• Outcomes and potential risks of your procedure
• Expected results

During Your Treatment

• Skin will be thoroughly examined. Strategic points on your face may get marked as the appropriate injection sites for the filler.
• Injection sites will be cleaned with an antibacterial agent.
• The injection itself takes a few moments per treated area. Liz will inject, massage, and evaluate the area being treated. If needed, an additional filler may be used to make sure you are happy with the results and that it meets your aspirations. Depending on your personalized treatment, the process may range from 15 to 60 minutes.

After Your Treatment

• Leftover markings will be cleaned. An ice pack may be used to reduce swelling further and relieve any discomfort. Your treated area may feel sore for a day or two. You should not need medication.
• Recovery time varies and depends on which filler is being used in a specific area.
• Generally, you can resume daily activities immediately.
• Avoid intense physical activity for the first 24 to 48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.
• Dermal fillers are temporary and only last six to 12 months before the body absorbs them. The results of soft tissue fillers are seen immediately. This can last from several months to several years, depending on the filler used and the patient injected.
