After spending a year working in bone marrow transplant, as an NP, she then moved on to Cleveland. Once again in Ohio, she was a hospitalist at Tri-Point Hospital for three years. Relocating for the last time and now in Rockford, she was been working with In Home Medical Group with a clinical emphasis in geriatrics and chronic disease management. She also teaches with the Compass program for nurses which includes but is not limited to lab interpretation, pathophysiology and nursing assessment. She has now added entrepreneur and aesthetics skills to her resume since opening the Face Place of Rockford.

How did I come to aesthetics?
Serendipity! There are so many factors it is nearly impossible to explain without writing a book, literally, my life story. I had an interest in aesthetics for quite some time, from my personal evolution over the years but when an opportunity to pursue this specialty came along I jumped in! It was time for me to make a life change and by the grace of good luck, it has been the perfect fit.
Do you miss ‘regular’ medicine?
Well, I haven’t left that world completely. I have a lot of education and experience under my belt that I bring to every encounter I have with a patient. I still teach and dabble in internal medicine. There are things I miss about it, but I’ll be honest, life is ever-changing and I am exactly where I was meant to be in this moment.
What do I love?
I love making people happy. I love helping women see their beauty and how to make the most of simple options to feel more beautiful and confident. I love learning and I love sharing what I have learned. What’s real and what’s a waste of time and money. This also fuels my feminist spirit! I know it sounds silly since I work in aesthetics but I am tired of women being taken advantage of. I do want women to feel beautiful and empowered for THEMSELVES. And I do not want women to spend one more dime on junk that doesn’t help them. We’re not gonna take it anymore!
What is my idea of beauty?
Peace. When a woman finds peace within herself about her face and body, that’s real beauty. We all have to work within the confines of our own DNA. So let’s fix that one little thing that’s driving you nuts so you can get back to living. That’s what I say, anyway. And to not duck the question…I think beauty is individual. If you want to go au natural, let’s see what simpler things we can do. If being on point with your hair and makeup everyday helps you face the world, go for it. Either way, there is room for someone like me to help women embrace their own features.
Are you at peace with yourself then? Do you feel beautiful?
Well, I can’t say I don’t struggle or haven’t struggled terribly in the past with my self-image. That would be a lie. However, I have really changed my tune in the past few years because my daughter came along. And by golly, I am not gonna spend one second hating on myself in front of her. I am gonna love myself and rejoice in who I am, period. And there is power in now having the tools to highlight our best features. I’m happy to share with anyone of my patients my own changes…dye my hair, fixed my teeth, lost weight, and gained some back, and I’ve had my lips filled and my under-eyes PRP’d. I have made the most of what I have and I want to help women find their happy place.
What do I want?
I want every woman to walk around like they are the most beautiful woman that has ever existed. No joke. Not with arrogance, but as role models to the young women coming behind us. Love your face as the beautiful, unique blessing that it is and to hell with anything else. Let’s show our daughters how beautiful they are by setting the example of loving ourselves.
What is most surprising about joining the world of beauty?
How much I love it. Despite all the negative associations one may have, now I feel that I have tools to help people. That makes me happy.

Eric

Eric Gillam, a proud Winnebago County native, has always had a deep connection to his community. After graduating from Boylan High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Loras College, setting the stage for a diverse and dynamic career. Following his passion for baseball, Eric attended The Jim Evans Academy of Professional Baseball Umpiring, where he began an exciting decade-long career as a professional baseball umpire. Once he retired from baseball Eric seamlessly pivoted back to his existing interests in real estate and business.

With his hands already in real estate and managing a thriving local upholstery business, Eric’s entrepreneurial spirit sparked once again when he met Liz. Together, they came up with new ideas and set out on a bold venture—flipping houses. What began as brainstorming sessions quickly turned into a strong business partnership and a strong friendship.

In 2018, Liz decided to start her own business, Face Place.  With Eric’s help they co-founded Face Place, starting in a humble 100-square-foot room. Since then, their vision and hard work have transformed it into the successful enterprise it is today. Alongside his role as COO of Face Place Rockford PLLC, Eric continues to wear multiple hats as the General Manager of Boots Upholstery, Inc., and a dedicated player in the local real estate market.

Eric’s journey is a testament to resilience, community dedication, and an unyielding drive to turn visions into reality.
